When I meet with new clients they often express fear that their soul will ask them to do something really drastic and hard. Something that they won’t have the courage to do. In fact, this is one of the fears that has kept many of them from truly listening to their soul in the past.
I can relate, of course. There have been plenty of times in my life when I’ve had the sense that my soul is leading me in a certain direction and because I am afraid of what this will mean I find ways to ignore it. Usually this means that I get really busy so I don’t have the time or energy to listen to my inner guidance. Fortunately, one of the blessings of the work I do is that as I help my clients I am learning too. And over the years, I have learned that our soul leads us to small shifts that make a big difference.
Yes, there may be times in our lives when a huge shift will happen at once but that is the exception not the rule. Mostly, our soul leads us to little steps. For instance your soul might guide you to take five minutes every day to breathe and meditate, or to start reading that book that you’ve been meaning to, or reconnect with a creative project that has been in your closet for years. These are all simple things that don’t require a lot of time yet can lead to valuable insights that will lead to important change.
As the saying says, “Small hinges open big doors.”
It is our ego that fools us into thinking that following our soul is really hard. In truth, like all of Spirit’s guidance, it is incredibly simple. This doesn’t mean it’s easy. It does require a form of discipline to start paying attention and following your inner guidance. But once you realize that your soul loves you unconditionally and is guiding you to fulfillment and joy not pain and suffering it can become easier to follow its guidance.
I invite you this week to take some time and write down some of the guidance that your soul has been sending your way. If you start telling yourself that you don’t know, just pretend that you do and write down what comes. You will often be surprised at all the valuable guidance your soul has already given you. Next, follow some of this guidance and notice where it takes you.
Blessings!
